Piecyk and his team conducted more than 1,000 speed tests in New York City to determine which was faster: the ThunderBolt, running on Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE network, or the EVO 4G, running on Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network. The analyst found that Verizon’s offering was consistently and significantly faster than Sprint’s 4G phone. The speed tests were conducted using the integrated mobile hotspot functions on both devices, and the testers were equipped with both an Apple iPad 2 and a Toshiba laptop for the tests. In the tests, Verizon’s LTE network averaged speeds of 9Mbps down and 5Mbps up while Sprint’s WiMAX network averaged about 1Mbps both down and up. Verizon’s LTE speeds peaked at 19Mbps down and 10Mbps up during the tests. Piecyk also found that Verizon Wireless’ LTE network was more reliable than Sprint’s WiMAX offering, and it offers better coverage. Adding insult to injury, he says the ThunderBolt has better battery life than the EVO 4G as well. Hit the break for a chart mapping out BTIG’s findings.

NTT DoCoMo plans to set charges for a new LTE (long-term evolution) data network at only slightly higher than those for its current 3G network, a Japanese business newspaper reported on Monday.

The carrier is scheduled to detail launch plans for the new network later Monday, but ahead of that The Nikkei daily said it will charge a flat-rate fee of ¥6,510 (US$80) per month for the service when it begins in December.

Current monthly charges for its 3G data network range between a minimum of ¥1,000 to up to ¥5,985 for unlimited use.

The LTE charge is about 9 percent higher, but users can expect a big improvement in data transmission speeds.

DoCoMo's current network, based on WCDMA (wide-band code division multiple access) 3G technology offers download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and uploads at up to 3.6Mbps. The new LTE service promises speeds of up to 75Mbps.

The new network comes with some catches.

It is initially limited to only major cities and the monthly fee covers up to 3 gigabytes of data transmission. That's enough for 99 percent of users, said The Nikkei, but others will face additional charges of ¥2,625 per 2 gigabytes. DoCoMo's 3G service has no limits on data usage.

Customer perception regarding the industry is generally vague. They’ve heard of energy deregulation but they do not know what it really means or how it benefits them.

Many consumers are unaware that they now have a choice between the major utilities and non-utility suppliers (ESCOs)

Consumers need more information regarding their choices
They need to be made aware the market is now competitive and may therefore offer lower prices than it would under government regulation

This competition also offers the production of new technologies and innovation that promote new services

They need to be educated about deregulation and its benefits. They need to know:
-that they can now comparison shop for gas & electric
-how the utility companies like Con Ed & LILCO are involved in the process
-what they can do if they receive bills from non-utility suppliers with whom they are unfamiliar
-where they could complain about such companies
-how to choose a supplier
-that there may be contractual agreements involved

Complaints:
The BBB generally hears from customers when they have billing problems Typically, they complain that they’ve been billed for service (gas or electricity) by a company (ESCO) that they’ve never heard of.

Consumers need to understand the billing process. They should contact their utility company or ESCO for a detailed explanation Complaints generally involve that they’ve been billed separately by their utility as well as another company -or that they’ve been billed by the utility and another company on the same bill.

They need to be educated about the “slamming” (fraudulent switching)

They must be made aware that non-utility suppliers may require them to sign a contractual agreement for the provision of service

They need to understand that they must check all terms of their contracts before signing

They must learn how to read their bills in order to understand what they’re paying for and who they’re paying for service

They should be able to spot billing mistakes and know who to complain to if they have a problem

Red Flags:
Don’t be rushed into signing contracts or accepting telemarketing agreements.

Incident: ESCOs may use telemarketing to solicit customers. In one instance, a telemarketer called a colleague of mine and proposed service saying that CON Ed was about to discontinue service in his area and that this may be his last chance to switch before this happens. He offered a rate of service and proposed that my friend could go with another ESCO but may have to pay a higher rate… so he’ll go ahead and switch now to avoid being left without service!

Beware of such telemarketers. This aggressive tactic is misleading and deceptive. Your utility company will notify you in writing of any disruption in service in advance. Do not be pressured into buying service.

Before Switching:

Before signing a contract or agreeing to switch service:

Ask for everything in writing from the company

They must disclose their rates

Ask whether you’re being billed on a per-month or a level- billing plan

Ask that all charges be listed (per kilo watt usage)

Power and Associates study measures call quality among the major U.S. wireless service providers based on seven factors that impact overall carrier performance. More than 24,300 wireless phone subscribers were surveyed between July and December 2009 about their experience with dropped calls, static/interference, failed connection on the first try, voice distortion, echoes, no immediate voice mail notification and no immediate text message notification. Based on their responses, Verizon Wireless ranked highest in five of six regions, including New England.

Verizon Wireless was also recognized for highest call quality in New England in the previous J.D. Power Call Quality Performance Study, issued in August 2009.

“Customers are using our network not only to talk, but for texting, e-mailing, downloading music, visiting Web sites, and sharing pictures and videos,” said Ken Dixon, president of Verizon Wireless’ New England Region. “It is important for us to not only meet the current needs of our customers, but to also stay ahead of their growing and ever-changing demand. That’s why we continually invest in and vigorously test our network – to make sure we are providing a service they can rely on today and in the future.”

Verizon Wireless regularly invests in its wireless network to provide customers with the reliable, high-quality service they expect from the company. Verizon Wireless’ ongoing network investment now totals more than $2.6 billion in New England and more than $55 billion nationally over the past ten years.

Verizon Wireless has the largest and most reliable wireless 3G network coverage area in the United States. The company’s 3G data network provides customers, in more locations than any other wireless carrier, the ability to browse the web quickly with fast page loading times, quickly download and play music, watch streaming video, send e-mails with attachments, download and play 3D games, video conference with contacts and rapidly share files. These engineers conduct more than 3.5 million voice call attempts and more than 19 million data tests annually on the Verizon Wireless network and other national wireless carriers’ networks while traveling almost 1 million miles across the nation.
Read more:

What is an IP address?
Every
device that is connected to the public Internet is assigned a unique
number called an Internet Protocol (IP) address. IP addresses consist
of four numbers separated by periods (also called a 'dotted-quad') and
look something like; 127.0.0.1.

Since these numbers are normally
assigned to internet service providers within region-based blocks, an
IP address can be used to identify the user's general location; the
region or country from which a computer is connecting to the Internet.
Because the numbers are difficult to deal with, an IP address may also
be assigned to a Host name, which is usually easier to remember. You
can look up a hostname to find an IP addresses, and vice-versa.

What is a Hostname?
A
name is a label that is used to distinguish one thing from another. A
person’s name, for instance, comprises a set of alphabetic characters
that allows a person to be individually addressed. Computers are also
named to differentiate one machine from another and to permit
activities like network communication.

Computers have always
needed unique addresses to communicate with each other. With the advent
of the Internet, the requirements to enable computers to communicate
with each other on a network included the concept of the host-name. The
hostname began as a simple string of alphanumeric characters and has
evolved to its current definition, where hostname means a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) that identifies every computer hooked up to the Internet via the Domain Name Service (DNS) naming hierarchy.

The
true “name” a computer needs in order to communicate on a network is a
set of numbers. The original computers connected to the Internet used
small integers as the host number. For TCP/IP, the main protocol used
by the Internet, each computer has a network IP address that follows a
specific set of rules to assure its uniqueness and validity.

At
one time ISPs issued one IP address to each user, called a "static" IP
addresses. Because there is a limited number of IP addresses and with
increased internet usage ISPs now issue IP addresses in a dynamic
fashion out of a pool of IP addresses (Using DHCP). These are referred
to as dynamic IP addresses. This also limits the ability of the user to
host websites, mail servers, ftp servers, etc.

DHCP
The
Internet is a vast source of information that is continuously updated
and accessed via computers and other devices. For a device (also
referred to as a host) to connect to the Internet, it is necessary that
among other configurations, it must have an Internet Protocol (IP)
address. The IP address is the computer’s address on the Internet. A
good comparison of an IP address would be your telephone number, which
is an identifier for people to communicate with you. Configuring a
computer to connect to the Internet (until the late 80s) was a manual
process. The protocol Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) was the first
Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network
configuration tool used to prevent the need to manually assign IP
addresses by automating the process.

While the introduction of
the BOOTP network protocol was a great for network administrators who
had to manage large numbers of computers on a network, it was just the
first attempt. A new and improved TCP/IP network protocol soon
followed. This protocol is called Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol
(DHCP). DHCP wasn't designed as a replacement for BOOTP, but rather as
an extension of its functionality.

How DHCP Works
As
its name indicates, DHCP provides dynamic IP address assignment. This
means that instead of having to rely on a specific IP address, a
computer will be assigned one that is available from a subnet or
“pool” assigned to the network. DHCP also extends BOOTP functionality
to provide IP addresses that expire. When DHCP assigns an IP address,
it actually leases the identifier to the host computer for a specific
amount of time. The default lease is five days.

In basic terms, the DHCP lease process works as follows:
   1. A network device attempts to connect to the Internet.
   2. The network requests an IP address.
   3. The DHCP server allocates (leases) the network device an IP address, which is forwarded to the network by a router.
   4. DHCP updates the appropriate network servers with the IP address & other configuration information.
   5. The network device accepts the IP address.
   6. The IP address lease expires.
   7. DHCP either reallocates the IP address or leases one that is available.
   8. The network device is no longer connected to the Internet.
   9. The IP address becomes an available address in the network pool of IP addresses.

To set up DHCP;
...you
need a DHCP-supported client, a router and a DHCP server. The client is
a computer or other device on a network that requires an IP address.
The router functions as a forwarding (or routing) agent of IP address
requests from the DHCP server. The DHCP server is key to the entire
operation. It is responsible for allocating, leasing, reallocating, and
renewing IP addresses. Windows and Linux both support DHCP software.

The 80/20 Rule of Search

The 80/20 Rule of Search There is a new concept being talked about in the web marketing industry. This new paradigm, dubbed the 80/20 rule of search, has sprung out of the realization that many of the earlier beliefs about search engine marketing are no longer true, or perhaps were never true in the first place.

When they were first introduced to search engine marketing (SEM), many marketers believed that with this innovative new concept, web marketing could be handled solely through the use of technology, and that human interaction wasn't necessary in producing successful online campaigns. However, after results fell short time and again, these marketers were forced to take a second look at their original ideas.

Marketers are now learning that words like "autopilot" and "set it and forget it" are no more than advertising ploys used by companies that simply don't understand what it takes to manage search effectively.

The new belief is that for SEM to live up to its promise, it is time for a completely new model - the 80/20 rule of search. The idea behind this rule is that:

    * 20% of the success of a paid search program is rooted in technology; and
    * 80% of the success of a paid search program is derived from a human component.

20% - Technology's Role in the Process

There are three areas where technology is crucial in search engine marketing:

   1. Gathering and sorting huge amounts of data from numerous engines. This includes information on impressions, clicks, number of conversions, and dollar value of conversions. All of this gives us the ability to capture information for every keyword/search engine combination.
   2. Calculating important ROI metrics based on the data collected such as ROAS (Return On Advertising Spend); CTA (Cost To Acquire); CPL (Cost Per Lead); and CPO (Cost Per Order).
   3. Producing a wide range of reports, including top-level summary reports, detailed trend analysis, grouped keyword analysis, and individual keywords.

The Other 80% - The Role of Human Intelligence

The 80% human component in the equation consists of marketers who interpret data and market conditions to make the best possible bidding decisions. These qualitative contributions involve developing expansive and relevant keyword sets as well as call-to-action marketing communications. They also include creating succinct landing pages that meet the expectations of search engine users and set consumers on the conversion path.

Keyword Development
Automated tools can certainly offer ideas for keyword development, but intuitive thinking is an essential factor in developing a robust keyword list. Just a few of the various issues to consider are product and brand names, synonyms, misspellings, singular and plural forms, features, benefits, and competitors.

Search Term Copywriting
Writing ads for search engines involves a combination of art and science that cannot be emulated by technology. One must adhere to the strict rules enforced by search engines while still drawing the reader in with a tempting promotion. Successful ads accomplish two goals: 1) encourage customers to click on your ad rather than your competitors' ads, and 2) discourage non-qualified consumers who are not interested in your product or service. This task is not easy given that it must be achieved with three lines of text and no graphics.

When the proper marketing communication strategy is applied, the highest quality site traffic is delivered to your website with the greatest likelihood of conversion.

Destination Page Analysis
One of the biggest and most frequent errors made by companies in paid search engine marketing is consistently sending all searches to their home page or to pages that are totally irrelevant to the search term. Today's web-users expect relevant information when they click on an ad, and when they do not receive it they quickly move on to their next option, which is usually your competition.

Review of Multiple Variables When Making Bidding Decisions
Each company must establish its own complex set of rules in making bid and position decisions. It is important to remember that being #1 isn't always the right choice; often times dropping down in position makes more sense. Bid setting is not just about price, it's more about relevant position. There are multiple variables that must be reviewed prior to making bidding decisions. Marketers must analyze the types of competitors listed above and below them on a search engine, the various marketing messages of competitors, the ROI effects of raising bids and conversely, of lowering bids, they must perform a historical position analysis, and they must consider the impact of affiliates, resellers and other third parties.

Conclusion
While the all-technology solution for paid search is clearly enticing because it involves less work and seems more cost-effective, the reality is that today's technology is only capable of covering 20% of the requirement for an effective campaign. Technology is limited because it relies solely on quantitative factors and is unable to consider qualitative factors such as consumer search intentions, marketing copy triggers, and irrelevant landing page content.

That's why it is imperative that the other 80% of a successful SEM program includes the human element. The result is a powerful combination of the complex intelligence of the human brain and cutting-edge technology. Apply this rule in your online marketing endeavors and you'll soon benefit from the truly extraordinary power of the web.

Written by David Montalvo, Senior SEO and Director of Business Development at Active Web Group
The reclassification to personal property assets results in shorter depreciation lives for those assets and the tax benefits of accelerated depreciation and reduced tax liabilities.

Which Commercial Properties Qualify?

Here is a list of property types that qualify:

    * Assisted Living
    * Apartment Buildings
    * Automobile Dealerships
    * Bank/Financial Institution
    * Fitness/Health Clubs
    * Golf/Resorts Heavy
    * Manufacturing/Processing
    * Hospital/Medical Office Buildings
    * Hotels and Motels
    * Light Manufacturing
    * Office Buildings
    * Restaurants (single or multiple)
    * Self Storage Facilities
    * Strip or Regional Malls
    * Tenant Improvements Warehouses

Candidates for Cost Segregation include the following:

    * New Construction
    * Look Back
    * New Acquisition (Purchase Price Allocations)
    * Leasehold Improvements

Commercial property that is valued at a minimum of $1,500,000 (excluding land value) or a commercial property with leasehold improvements greater than $750,000 have enough potential benefits to warrant a study.

What are the Benefits?

    * Time Value of Money
    * Dramatic reduction in taxable income
    * Increased cash flow for investment opportunities and business expansion
    * Property tax savings

For more information, use our contact us form or call us at 888 650 5353

Energy Efficiency Studies

Green Building Energy Efficiency Tax Deductions (Section 179D)
The Energy Policy Act of 2005 added section 179D to the Internal Revenue Code. Section 179D permits a deduction for the costs of installing certain energy efficient building systems in commercial buildings.
To claim the deduction, a taxpayer must obtain a certification of energy savings. The certification process must be performed by a qualified firm or individual that performed an on-site inspection of the building. The energy savings must be calculated using qualified software from the Treasury Department’s list of certified software programs. Our staff includes engineers that are qualified and certified to perform Green Building studies.

Green Building 179D Energy Efficiency Tax Deductions
A tax deduction of up to $1.80 per square foot is available for improving the energy efficiency of existing commercial buildings or designing high efficiency into new buildings. Investments that appreciably reduce the heating, cooling, water heating, and interior lighting energy cost of new or existing commercial buildings are eligible for a tax deduction.

Overview of Paradigm's Green Building Study Process

    * Review specifications and determine if building qualifies
    * Site visit
    * Certified engineer performs the energy modeling and analysis
    * The study is completed and turned over to the building owner and their financial advisor

Audit Support
As with many tax incentives, there is a chance for an IRS audit. In the event of an audit, our fees for a study includes 40 hours of audit support. We feel comfortable in providing audit support because our engineers are experienced and follow all the rules and regulations as required by the IRS. In addition we feel our studies will withstand IRS scrutiny because we follow the methodologies recommended by the IRS.
The Next Step

If you are a building owner or a CPA firm with clients that you think might qualify, let our certified engineering professionals help you determine if you can take advantage of this great tax incentive and if so, maximize your deductions.

Question:
Who invented the Internet?

Answer:
A single person did not create the Internet that we know and use today. Below is a listing of several different people who've helped contribute and develop the Internet.

The idea
The initial idea is credited as being Leonard Kleinrock's after he published his first paper entitled "Information Flow in Large Communication Nets" on May 31, 1961.

In 1962 J.C.R. Licklider becomes the first Director of IPTO and gave his vision of a galactic network. In addition to the ideas from Licklider and Kleinrock, Robert Taylor helped create the idea of the network, which later became ARPANET.

Initial creation
The Internet as we know it today first started being developed in the late 1960's.

In the summer of 1968 the Network Working Group (NWG) held its first meeting chaired by Elmer Shapiro with the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) with attendees: Steve Carr, Steve Crocker, Jeff Rulifson, and Ron Stoughton. In the meeting the group discussed solving issues related to getting hosts to communicate with each other.

In December 1968 Elmer Shapiro with SRI released a report "A Study of Computer Network Design Parameters." Based on this work and earlier work done by Paul Baran, Thomas Marill and others; Lawrence Roberts and Barry Wessler helped to create the final version of the Interface Message Processor (IMP) specifications. Bolt Beranek and Newman, Inc. (BBN) was later awarded the contract to design and build the IMP sub network.

Introduction of the Internet to the general public
UCLA puts out a press release introducing the public to the Internet on July 3, 1969.

First network equipment

August 29, 1969 the first network switch and the first piece of network equipment called "IMP", which is short for (Interface Message Processor) is sent to UCLA and on September 2, 1969 the first data moves from UCLA host to the switch.

The first distributed message
On Friday October 29, 1969 the first Internet message was sent from computer science Professor Leonard KleinRock's laboratory at UCLA, after the second piece of network equipment was installed at SLI. This connection not only enabled the first transmission to be made but is also considered to be the first Internet backbone.

The first message to be distributed was "LO", which was an attempt at "LOGIN" by Charley S. Kline to log into the SLI computer from UCLA. However, the message was unable to be completed because the SLI system crashed. Shortly after the crash the issue was resolved and he was able to log into the computer.

E-mail is developed
Ray Tomlinson introduces network e-mail in 1972, the first messaging system to send messages across a network to other users.

TCP is developed
Vinton Cerf and Robert Kahn design TCP during 1973 and later publish it with the help of Yogen Dalal and Carl Sunshine in December of 1974 in RFC 675.

Ethernet is conceived
Bob Metcalfe develops Ethernet idea in 1973.

TCP/IP is created
In 1978 TCP splits into TCP/IP driven by Danny Cohen, David Reed, and John Shoch to support real-time traffic. This allows the creation of UDP. TCP/IP is later standardized into ARPANET in 1983 and is still the primary protocol used for the Internet.

DNS is introduced
Paul Mockapetris and Jon Postel introduce DNS in 1984.

HTML

In 1990 Tim Berners-Lee develops HTML, which makes a huge contribution to how we navigate and view the Internet today.

WWW
Tim Berners-Lee introduces WWW to the public on August 6, 1991.

Internet experiences large growth
In 1993 the Internet experienced one of its largest growths and today is accessible and used by people everywhere in the world. Today over 1 billion videos are view on YOUTUBE.

Related questions:

But I thought Al Gore invented the Internet.
Al Gore coined the term Information Superhighway.

Meta-Data Overview:

Meta-data is information about a web page that isn't part of the actual content of the page. It provides valuable information about the page to various parts of a browser, search engine crawlers, etc.. The meta-data is stored in a different part of the web page’s HTML code than the usual web content. So Meta Tags are not visible as part of the web site's content

These are the three essential segments of meta-data;

   1. Title: This is the most important piece of meta-data. It is probably the most important part of your web page.

Why?  Two reasons.

The title is what is recognized to be the one single bit of information that describes what the page is about. (Like a book title). It shows up at the top of the browser when users are browsing your site. It is the default title your browser and book-marking sites will automatically use when people “save” your site.

it is what the search engines also use to determine what the site is all about. The title gets the most “weight” from the search engines. Think of your meta-data title just like you would if you were writing an article or authoring a book. The title is extremely important.

   2. Description: This is an “abstract” or summary of the web page. SEO experts will tell you that it is best to ensure that important words and terms about your site are crafted into the description in some way. Yahoo! (and possibly other engines) use this description, or a part of it, when your site “matches” on a specific search term and the Search Engine shows a small summary of your site below the title.

   3. Keywords: This element provides a set of key terms or words that describe the web page. Years ago, in the early days of Search Engines, the keywords element was very heavily weighted towards determining the context of a web page. It was a quick way for the search engine to “figure out” what a web page was about (instead of having to scan all the content). However, in time, people started abusing this “feature”. They crammed words into the meta-keywords element that had nothing to do with the web page’s content. The idea was that by stuffing “popular” words, they would draw more traffic. Consequently, the importance of the meta-keywords element was greatly diminished. Search engines no longer look at this information as the definitive way to determine context. However, it is important to use the keywords element because it is still used.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to call us at 888 650 5353
or
EMAIL US

2rnv5wbk8i
